First of all I want to give a huge THANK YOU to TheRealRealHow About OrangeThe Bold Italic, and ModCloth for their interest in Cut&Fold Costumes and for helping share this little blog with a wider audience! If you’ve found Cut&Fold Costumes from one of these places welcome and enjoy!

I’m putting up my fourth mask a little bit early as a special treat for anyone getting into the Halloween spirit this weekend! My Robot design is inspired by some of my favorite vintage robots/robot-like creatures (particularly Tik Tok from the Oz books). I’ve always liked robot characters that are already a bit antiquated and are starting to get a little rusty and crusty. My robot mask is dinged up and dented but still fully functional! For my third mask I created a simple black cat. I wanted to create something that’s very classically Halloween that also teeters on the line between creepy and elegant. You can cut around the eyes as marked on the pattern or cut out the eyes completely for a less eerie look. Click through to download the small and large version of this mask!

Over the weekend I put together a photo shoot to show off my masks in action and to give just a few costume ideas to go with my Cut&Fold Costumes. When Nikki (Yay Nikki! Check out the work she does at The RealReal and get some more styling ideas!) and I were working on this shoot we talked a lot about the power of masks and their ability to create characters. The masks of Cut&Fold Costumes are designed to have a hint of a character already inherent within them, and when you put on the mask that character completely takes over. Those characters manifest in different ways depending on who’s wearing the mask. Because of Nikki’s personality and amazing wardrobe, my collection of masks transformed into a Demonic diva, a disco Kitty, and a Skeleton slacker. How else would you remix these costumes? I’m already formulating my plan for Halloween….

(Many thanks to Nikki for the styling AND modeling and to Adam for the photography!)

My second mask is an Oni-inspired demon half mask. I went through a bunch of different color combinations with this fellow before I settled on the purple skin tone. My goal was to find a color combination with enough contrast to make the facial decorations really pop. Click “read more” to download the PDF!
